Instagram beginner.

Good morning!  I am now posting on Instagram, though I am yet to understand how hashtags work.  I must admit that I already have a love-hate relationship with this addictive social medium.  I love its spontaneity but hate the glamourous, sanitised culture it seems to encourage, reminding me of why I fled big brother Facebook.

I was thinking of starting on instagram too. Like you though, I hate how social media turns everything into promotion - we are turning our lives into commodities! So removed from reality.(I don't have a personal facebook either.)

Yay! welcome!! I use hashtags to group my photos under certain things but this is not the real use of them. you can use them for lots of reasons, to get follower of the same kinds of things, to be in a conversation about something etc.

good luck! Following. :)

I'm totally with you, Julianne!

Thank you very much Jo -- I really don't get hashtags at all, but I can see that you can Google instructions on how they are used, which means that I mustn't be the only one!!!

Hope you're both well!

Oh god, I'm tying my hands down Sandra. Still haven't even dared to peep at Instagram. With FB, blogging and my almost-embaressing Pinterest addiction, I think more screen time can't possibly be healthy for moi. VERY tempted now I know you're doing your thing there though...

Hi Sass,
I have very quickly become an Instagram addict and absolutely understand why you are reluctant to 'go there'. The response to my work has been amazing though, so it was good timing! You are the Pinterest Queen -- we NEED your presence there too!!! Talk soon. x
